Did u spot the 350? did u hear our chant?

Are you guys ready for the simultaneous actions around the world on 24th of Oct? Are you guys excited about the huge global movements built up leading to the International Day of Climate Action? One more day to go and there  are now over 4,000 events planned in more than 170 countries!

Let’s have a tour on what’s happening around the Universities in Malaysia…

.

A team of enthusiastic Monashians stood up for their future:

350! 350! 350!
350! 350! 350! Awesome people and awesome photo!

Taken from an article log of the event:

“ Last Friday (15th October 2009), approximately 130 Monash students from the Sunway campus expressed their concern over this very issue through making a human formation of the numbers 350. The event was organized by a group of students from the School of Science who came to know of 350.og through the Malaysian Youth Climate Justice Network (MYCJN). Their success in organizing the gathering was possible through the social network, Facebook that spread the news virally as well as support from Dr. Catherine Yule from the School of Science.

Students from all different schools in Monash Sunway (Science, Medicine, Business, Arts and Social Sciences, Information Technology and Engineering) and representatives from MYCJN came together on Thursday morning to jointly ask for the 350 target and a just climate policy. During the event, students chanted the target of 350 loud and clear while standing in their positions. As a follow up to the message sent through the formation, participants signed a petition suggesting to the Malaysian government to reach the 350 target. ”

Student leaders from University of Tunku Abdul Rahman teamed up for climate action:

working hard for the better tomorrow...good job!

A series of green events were held during the UTAR 350 Climate Action Week at the vibrant city campus to stir awareness of students on climate change issues and encourage them to take action. This week long event prior to Oct 24th will line up to the big day!

.

Concern souls from University Malaysia Terengganu hand in a green statement:

Well done green-finger-lings!
Well done green-finger-lings!

About 150 participants turned up on a saturday night (Oct 17th) to voice out what they want to protect from climate change by drawing/writing it down on their palm with green paint. The green finger photos will be collected from all over the world by mygreenfinger.org to be handed to the world leaders.

Only 5 minutes! It is easy and fun yet important in linking individuals and their simple concerns to the big and complex challenge of climate change. Green finger campaign aims to unify individual voices into one message: ‘We care about climate change, Copenhagen can’t fail’.

This activity is one of the many events planned during the 350 UMT Awareness Campaign, organized by UMT Marine Science Club and 350 UMT Student Collective Facebook Group. Stay tuned for more exciting events coming up in UMT!

.

What are you waiting for? Take action now! It’s time for climate justice! Join us and be part of the great movement. Excitement and satisfaction guaranteed!
